Strengthening Connections in East Java: Exotique Foods’ Business Visit to Surabaya
Chrissendy FeliciaShare
At Exotique Foods, our mission has always been rooted in sharing the vibrant flavors of Indonesia with the world while staying deeply connected to the people and places behind our products. That’s why our recent visit to Surabaya, East Java, was more than just a business trip, it was a celebration of collaboration, culture, and connection.
More than half of Exotique Foods’ product line is proudly sourced and produced in East Java. From nutrient-rich tropical snacks to handcrafted Indonesian chips, this region plays a vital role in our story. Visiting East Java allows us to meet face-to-face with the local producers and SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) that power our supply chain many of whom we’ve worked with for years, and some who are exciting new partners.
On July 20, 2024, we had the honor of joining the Business Matching UMKM Food Binaan hosted by Bank Indonesia Jawa Timur (East Java). This event brought together food SMEs and export-ready businesses under one roof. We’re incredibly grateful to Bank Indonesia Jatim, especially Ibu Tri and Ibu Yemi, for their warm hospitality and support in facilitating new business partnerships. Their dedication to empowering local SMEs truly aligns with our values.
Beyond meetings and market insights, no trip to Surabaya would be complete without indulging in one of the region’s most iconic dishes: Rawon Soup. Known as the best soup in the world, Rawon is a bold and aromatic Javanese beef soup made with keluak nut, a unique ingredient that gives it its rich, earthy flavor. It's moments like this, where business meets culture that remind us why we do what we do.
We look forward to continuing our partnerships with East Java's talented food producers and helping their incredible creations reach more tables across North America.
